A pair of top quality shin instep pads made for serious martial artists. These are not made of flat pieces of foam cut to shape, they are actually molded high-density foam shaped to fit around your shin and the top foot. They close on the shin with two heavy-duty velcro straps and a fixed heavy elastic wrap under the arch of the foot. The shin straps are wide for a comfortable, snug fit. This keeps them in place so they don't slide around on your leg. The outside of these pads are made of high quality artificial leather (similar to that used on the sides of "leather" car seats). The inside surface is lined with 100% nylon. While not especially heavy (about 7 oz or 8 oz each), they are intended for intermediate or advanced martial artists. Cheaper pads are available and would be fine for the beginner, but these are pads intended for long-term heavy protection (though for kickboxers and Muay Thai, you might want to step up a little).
